I was raised on a dairy farm in Southern California. After getting out of the service in 1967 I moved to Kauai in 1968. I worked for a couple of farms on the North Shore growing Papaya, Taro and truck crops. This gave me a good opportunity to learn about the cultures and values of the different nationalities of the people living on Kauai (Hawaiian. Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Philippine and Haoles, i.e. Caucasians), the six main nationalities on the island. This was a wonderful experience.
After a few years of farming I took a night job at a restaurant waiting tables to have my days free to surf more and to explore the island. I did this until I obtained my real estate license in 1983 and have been in the business ever since.
I am a member of the Kauai Board of Realtors, The National Association of Realtors and hold a Hawaii Real Estate Brokers license.
Kauai is a wonderful place to live with its near perfect climate, blue skies, trade winds, mountains, waterfalls, valleys, rains, streams and beautiful beaches with warm ocean water. Along with all the great water activities including surfing, water wind sports, paddling canoe, kayaking, water skiing, and fishing there is also horse back riding, great hiking, excellent golf courses, tennis facilities, mountain biking and more. Kauai is a great place for someone who just wants to live on a beautiful island and enjoy life their way. Kauai is hard to beat for anyone planning to live in the tropics.
But, as you know Kauai real estate prices are some of the highest in the country, the cost of living is also one of the highest. If you have the dough and desire it 's worth it. I look at Kauai real estate as more of an emotional buy rather then a business opportunity.
